Many boat launch locations along the Chemung and Susquehanna Rivers are used by anglers seeking a variety of warmwater fish (see list below). Fly fishing is also popular where river conditions permit.

DO I NEED A FISHING LICENSE?

If you are 16 years and older, and fishing for freshwater fish species by angling, spearing, hooking, longbow, or tip-ups, New York State requires a fishing license. Some exclusions apply and veterans, seniors, students and others may qualify for a free or reduced free license.

New York State sponsors a program where anglers can borrow fishing equipment (rods, bobbers, and hooks) for free. Designed for beginners to try the sport before purchasing gear, it is also ideal for those visiting the water trail or nearby areas.

GUIDED FISHING TRIPS

COOPERSTOWN BASS GUIDES: Offers guided fishing tours on Otsego Lake. Also home to the Susquehanna Bass Association, a local anglers club that includes a list of annual fishing competitions in the area.

WHITE DOG TRAIL COMPANY: Provide fly and spin fishing trips including float trips on the Susquehanna River.
