BIRDING

Bring your binoculars—NYSBWT is a birding bonanza! Look for nesting osprey, eagles, falcons and hawks, as well as water lovers like the great blue heron, egret, loons, mallard, merganser, and wood ducks. Many migrating species of gulls, ferns, sandpipers and blackbirds make their seasonal home along the water trail.

CAMPING

Parks and private campgrounds offer tent, RV and cabin sites for overnight stays along the water trail. For rural segments with no lodging, note the shoreline and many islands may be private property or owned by the state or local municipality. Respect “No Trespassing” signs, store your boat safely, and leave no trace when camping.
